Disney's Animal Kingdom is an amusement park located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Soon after the park opened, Disney advertised the park using the fictional word "nahtazu". It is pronounced "not a zoo". It was meant to state that the park is more than just a city zoo.
Under the leadership of Michael Eisner decided in 1994 that Disney also needed an animal park to attract visitors. On June 20, 1995, Michael Eisner announced that construction work would begin in September 1995 to build a 200-acre site with a new theme park, Disney's Animal Kingdom, in the western portion of the Walt Disney World Resort.
The park was not intended to be started as a certified zoo. Despite this, it did receive a certification from the AZA, which was valid until March 2010. The park's first association with the AZA dates back to 2002, when an animal exchange program was established, which would promote the reproduction of animals in the area.

The original design for Disney's Animal Kingdom also included its own themed part for the animals from stories: Beastly Kingdom, a land based on animals that never existed and never will.
The themed part would be unicorns, dragons and sea monsters.
Currently, the park contains more than 300 different species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, more than 50 species of fish and more than 40 species of insects.
The park is open year-round, in 2019 Disney's Animal Kingdom reached an attendance of 13.89 million visitors in the park.
