'Club 33' is a private dining club located within Disneyland, Anaheim, California. Opened in 1967 by Walt Disney, the club was modeled after numerous executive lounges created by pavilion sponsors in the 1964 World's Fair. The club replaced The Disney Room of the Red Wagon Inn at Central Plaza.
It started with a patch of grass called; 'Holidayland' that was a 9-acre (36,000 m2) grassy picnic ground located along the western edge of Disneyland, near the area that is now New Orleans Square.
Food and concessions were available for purchase including beer, which was not sold on the neighboring premises of Disneyland.
'Holidayland' closed in September 1961.
'Club 33' is located across from the 'La Mascarade d'Orleans shop.'
According to Disney, Club 33 is named after its address at 33 Royal Street in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. But calling a Cast member; Roger Craig once said, "33 was the number of the 33rd major corporate sponsors in 1967 that worked with Disney." He has worked from the opening of 'Club 33.'
There was also an animatronic of a Vulture in the lounge. In the chandeliers were microphones where Castmembers could listen to the conversations and the Vulture could respond to the conversations of the people.
But that idea was soon dropped and the microphones remained switched off.
