Walygator Grand-Est is an amusement park in France. Until 2006, the park was called Walibi Lorraine.
On May 9, 1989, Big Bang Schtroumpf opens its doors.
Le nouveau monde des Schtroumpfs (The new world of the Smurfs)
Claude and Didier Le Douarin are two brothers who are especially known in the fairground environment.
In early December 2012, it was announced that Walygator Parc is looking for a new owner.
And then came Aspro Parks a Spanish Investor.
Aspro owns about 42 parks in 8 different countries, including Belgium and the Netherlands.
At the end of 2014, the group took over both the Dolfinarium Harderwijk and Walibi Sud-Ouest, Walygator Grand-Est (Big Bang Schtroumpf).
In 1990, the amusement park experienced its first serious crisis. It will receive only 380,000 visitors this year, while 1.8 million were expected. The park is declared bankrupt and it is sold to a new park group, the Walibi Group, which also owns all other Walibi parks.
In 1991 Walibi, the orange kangaroo made its appearance in the park. In addition to the Smurfs, the park introduces its new name: Walibi Schtroumpf.
Walibi Schtroumpf is sold in 1998 to the Premier Parks group, better known as Six Flags.
Unfortunately in 2004 Six Flags withdraws from Europe. Walibi Lorraine, together with the other European Six Flags parks, will be sold to Palamon Capital Partners, which will bundle the parks under the name StarParks.
StarParks decides in 2006 to split Walibi Lorraine from the other parks. The kangaroo license will remain valid until the end of the 2006 season.
Due to the name change in 2021 from Walibi Sud-Ouest to Walygator Sud-Ouest, the park will change its name to Walygator Grand Est.
